Good socialisation is not a free-for-all at the dog park. Our dog socialisation walks pair your dog with a small, matched pack so they can practise calm greetings, sharing space and settled group time, guided by handlers trained in the TBTE system.
We match dogs by temperament and energy before the first walk and introduce new dogs gradually. No dog is thrown in at the deep end, and first outings are paced to suit your dog.
Week to week, your dog walks with the same familiar packmates across fields, native bush and streams in Oratia, practising calm greetings and shared exploration with handler support.
The goal is a calm, confident, well-socialised dog: a dog who can read other dogs, give space when it is needed and settle as part of a group.
Janet and Ethan are certified through Rhonda Bilodeau’s My Dog Camp programme, grounded in Mark McCabe’s TBTE (Training Between the Ears) system, a behaviour-modification approach that builds calm, confident, well-socialised dogs. That certification shapes how every walk is run, from introductions to home time.
Our vision is simple: giving Auckland dogs the chance to socialise and exercise in a way true to their canine natures, while helping them build, develop and maintain the skills to be the best pack mate they can be. Socialisation on our walks is structured, supervised and matched, never left to chance.
These walks suit friendly, social dogs who want regular pack time. For nervous or reactive dogs, we start honestly at the free meet and greet: if a gradual group introduction is the right path we will design one, and if our walks are not the right fit we will tell you plainly. Hipster Dogs is insured and certified, including animal first aid training.

Possibly, and it starts with the free 30-minute meet and greet. We assess every dog individually, introduce new dogs gradually and match groups by temperament and energy. Some nervous dogs thrive once they have calm, familiar packmates; if we do not think our group walks are the right fit, we will say so honestly.
We look at temperament, energy and play style, and we introduce new dogs gradually rather than all at once. Groups stay small so the handler knows every dog and can keep the walk settled.
Calm greetings, sharing space, recalling away from play, settling with the group and reading other dogs’ body language. The goal is a calm, confident, well-socialised dog, not just a tired one.

Tell us about your dog through the contact form, including how they feel about other dogs, and we will design the right introduction plan together. No commitment.
